The skin around the eyes is 10 times thinner than the skin on the face and one of the first places to show signs of premature aging. As we age, the skin around the eyes loses its elasticity and becomes even thinner due to collagen breakdown. (We start losing collagen as early as age 25.) This can be further aggravated by sun exposure, smoking and other environmental factors. Facial movements and expressions such as smiling, squinting and stress can also affect the eye area, creating fine lines or crow’s feet (lines that appear on the outside corner of the eye).
Just blinking alone produces up to 10,000 movements a day. This is why it is extremely important to take extra special care of the eye contour area if you wish to prevent and help diminish premature signs of aging.
Here are some things you can do daily to promote healthy skin around the eyes:
- Drink plenty of water
- Avoid smoking cigarettes
- Stay out of the sun and wear sunglasses
- Limit alcohol intake
- Get plenty of rest
- Eat plenty of green veggies – known to alkalize the body
- Use Eye Cream and Serum with Vitamins A, C & E
